Golf qualifications from The PGA

The PGA Training Programme is the most respected golf qualification in the world.

The PGA has been involved in training and educating Golf Professionals for over 50 years and now runs all its programmes from The PGA National Training Academy at The Belfry in Sutton Coldfield, the spiritual home of the Ryder Cup. FdSc - BSc (Hons) Professional Golf Studies

The Foundation Degree in Professional Golf Studies, delivered by The PGA, is a collaborative foundation degree awarded by the University of Birmingham. This three-year distance learning course is a core element of the PGA Training Programme with a strong focus on golf coaching & sports science, business & finance, equipment technology and custom fitting.

Length: 3 Years

Start: October 2024

Format: Part-time

Location: Distance Learning (with residentials)

DipHE - BA/BA (Hons) Professional Golf

The Diploma in Higher Education is delivered by The PGA in partnership with the University of the Highlands and Islands in Scotland. The three-year structured part-time course covers modules relevant to the varied demands of the golf industry with modules in coaching, equipment technology and custom fitting, sports science, retail, and business elements.

Length: 3 Years

Start: October 2024

Format: Part-time

Location: Distance Learning (with residentials)

BSc (Hons) Applied Golf Management Studies

This world-leading golf degree, taught in partnership with the University of Birmingham, covers modules in applied sports science, equipment technology, coaching theory and business management and provides students an opportunity to work within three industry-based placements.

Length: 3 Years

Start: October 2024

Format: Full-time

  • FdSc Professional Golf Studies & DipHE Professional Golf

    For the FdSc and DipHE courses, you will need a WHS certificate and a handicap of not greater than 6.4 if you are male or 8.4 if you are female. Full details of playing requirements will be provided on application.

    BSc Applied Golf Management Studies

    There is no handicap requirement for the AGMS degree, however the above handicap criteria must be met by those applying for PGA Membership upon graduation.

  • FdSc Professional Golf Studies

    For those starting the FdSc programme in 2024, the tuition fee will be £4,750* per academic year for UK and ROI entrants and £6,750* for international students.

    *Fees are subject to inflationary increase in subsequent years in line with UK government policy.

    DipHE Professional Golf Studies

    For the DipHE programme, fees are currently £1,250* per year for Scottish students, with a term-time address in Scotland. Fees for Scottish residents from October 2024 will be updated as soon as they are released.

    For students living elsewhere in the UK (England, Wales and Northern Ireland), the fee is £4,750 per year. For students based in the Republic of Ireland, the fee is £4,750 per year.

    *Plus £1,237.50 for additional PGA elements each year.

    BSc Applied Golf Management Studies

    For the AGMS Degree, the University of Birmingham will charge the maximum approved tuition fee per year. The fees for your first year of study in 2024 will therefore be £9,250 for UK entrants.

  • If you are studying for your first higher education course, you can apply for a government loan via the relevant Student Loans Company (SLC). Visit the SLC for the UK here.

    If you live in Scotland, you may be eligible for a part-time fee grant. Further information on eligibility and how to apply is available from the Scottish Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS).

  • FdSc Professional Golf Studies & DipHE Professional Golf

    The FdSc and DipHE courses are completed over 3 years on a part-time basis.

    A Foundation Degree equates to the first two years of an Honours Degree. Following the completion of the FdSc there is an option to continue with academic study and convert the qualification to BSc (Hons) in Professional Golf Studies.

    Graduates from the DipHE can continue to honours degree level study on UHI’s BA (Hons) Professional Golf. Advanced entry to this would be into year three of the programme.

    BSc Applied Golf Management Studies

    The AGMS degree is completed over 3 years on a full-time basis.

  • FdSc Professional Golf Studies & DipHE Professional Golf

    The FdSc and DipHE courses are delivered part-time, as trainees will undertake their studies alongside a role working at a golf facility under a PGA Training Professional.

    You should expect to commit at least 10 hours per week to attending online lectures and completing assignments.

    BSc Applied Golf Management Studies

    The AGMS Degree is a full-time degree based at the University of Birmingham’s Edgbaston Campus.

    You should expect 12 hours of contact time per week made up of lectures, seminars and practical workshops. You must supplement this with a significant amount of personal study in order to complete assignments.
