About The PGA

The PGA has over 8,000 members in over 80 countries – making us a truly global brand.

Our Members influence how the game is played, coached, promoted and managed. We are the past, present and future of golf.

The PGA stands for honesty, integrity, innovation and leadership. We are proud of our heritage and are committed custodians of golf’s traditions. But we are also a forward-thinking organisation, responsible for shaping the future of the game and raising the profile of golf across the world.

Once qualified, PGA Members can access a raft of benefits, from professional development platforms – including eLearning courses, TED Talks and podcasts – to networking events, expert advice and Member discounts.

At The Heart Of Golf For Over A Century

The PGA has been at the heart of golf since 1901 when the professionals of the day, led by the Great Triumvirate of JH Taylor, Harry Vardon and James Braid, formed an organisation to support their interests and promote the game of golf.

The PGA’s mission statement is to ‘improve the personal and professional lives of our Members’.

The PGA plays a significant role in the development of golf at different levels, from junior coaching through to government policy, where it is helping formulate and determine the strategy for the sport.

Since 2004, The PGA has led on the development of coaching qualifications for golf. Now, at The PGA’s National Training Academy at The Belfry, aspiring Members utilise cutting-edge technology in the PGA Golf Performance Studio, Cochran Sports Science Suite, workshop and classrooms, while learning from tutors and staff who are experts in their field.

About The Qualifications

The PGA And The Ryder Cup

The Ryder Cup is the most exciting event in golf. It sees Europe and the USA go head-to-head in a thrilling team matchplay format on a biennial basis.

The figure depicted on the top of the iconic golden trophy is one of The PGA’s most famous members – Abe Mitchell.

Mitchell was the personal golf instructor of Samuel Ryder and the Ryder Cup was his brainchild.

“I trust that the effect of this match will be to influence a cordial, friendly and peaceful feeling throughout the whole civilised world,” said Ryder.

“I look upon the Royal and Ancient game as being a powerful force that influences the best things in humanity.”

The PGA are the trustees of the Ryder Cup trophy to this day and a partner in Ryder Cup Europe.
